BOAT SHOW SEASON!

We have been busy these past few months attending boat shows all over the globe, from Sydney, Australia to Cannes in France, ending our world tour in the beautiful town of Annapolis, USA. It has been a incredible ride especially because this year we had two international debuts with HH Catamarans' HH55-01 Minnehaha and HH66-05 Flash, as well as the Australian debut for Hudson Powercat in the form of our HPC48.

We were excited to debut Hudson Powercat's HPC48 in Australia this year at the Sydney INternational Boat Show. She was very well received at the show and after the event we took the HPC48 for a ride through Sydney Harbour and under the famous Harbour Bridge! Check out the video HERE.

Next up was the Cannes Yachting Festival. It was a return appearance for HH Catamaran's HH66-01 R-Six and once again she dazzled and amazed. R-Six made her international debut at this very show last year and since then she has been busy tearing up the race track on both sides of the Atlantic leaving all competitors scrambling in her wake. Take a look at her race record over the past few months HERE.

With barely any time home to adjust our body clocks, we were back in the air, time-zone hopping our way to America and the Newport and the Annapolis boat shows. First up was Newport and another international debut, this time for HH Catamaran's HH55-01 'Minnehaha'. Having already cruised the Bahamas a couple of months earlier, Minnehaha's sails were fully aired out and her owners keen to show off their gorgeous new catamaran. HH55-01 combines luxury interiors and creature comforts of home with the high-performance and robustness required for crossing oceans. HH66-03 Nala was there at the show as well making the Newport Boat Show the first time we have had two HH Catamarans along side one another on the dock. It was a special moment for us and a proud one. During the show the HH Catamaran team even won best boat show booth display. Well done guys!

The final show of 2017 was Annapolis and yet another debut. This time we got to reveal the awesome HH66-05 Flash to the world and boy did she steal the show! Flash is an impressive boat to behold, with her stunning electric blue hulls, huge tillers, aft cockpit dedicated to living space and of course, the beautiful Morrelli and Melvin lines (take a look HERE). Visitors at the show were doubly bowled over when they come aboard and discovered the piano on board. A little wind and rain (gusts of 30 knots!!) at the end of the show didn't seem to perturb the crowds too much and by the time the bell rang at the end of the show, over 1000 people had come to see our two cats.

As is Annapolis Boat Show tradition, a frantic mass exodus brought the final day's activity to an exciting and speedy end. We managed to escape the outer docks ahead of the chaos and found a lovely anchorage in Mill Creek (HERE) where we holed up for a few days of shooting with master photographer Billy Black. Billy's stunning photos are coming very soon.

We spent our final days in Annapolis sailing FLASH and MINNEHAHA together side-by-side with judges for the Sailing World and Cruising World Boat of the Year competitions as well as other press and prospects.

It was Doug's birthday as well, making the day that much more special. Congratulations to all on a spectacular boat, and best wishes to Doug and Deb as they prepare to set sail on a great new adventure!

HH Catamarans Celebrates Their First Year

As the relative newcomer in the performance cruising cat segment, all eyes have been on HH Catamarans. The four year old venture, a partnership between esteemed Kiwi boat builder Paul Hakes and visionary Taiwanese industrialist Hudson Wang, set out to build the world’s finest cutting-edge, bespoke, performance cruising catamarans, and ensure a premier ownership experience by providing an unparalleled level of support and service.

HH Catamarans delivered their first launch, HH66-01 'R-SIX', to her owner in Valencia last June. The Morrelli & Melvin designed HH Supercat set the pace in her first six months, sailing from Valencia to Cyprus and many points in-between. She wowed industry insiders and show goers when she made her debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September, then sailed directly to Mallorca to compete in the first-ever Multihull Cup Regatta. Sailing against a competitive class of her more seasoned peers, including Gunboat 66s Coco de Mer and Slim and Nigel Irens custom 78’ Allegra, R-SIX pounced on the challenge, stunning the fleet and finishing in 1st Place Overall.

In January, R-SIX crossed the Atlantic, arriving in Antigua just in time to immediately switch gears and compete in the prestigious Caribbean 600. The multi day regatta challenged competitors with extremely light conditions for much of the 600 mile course. With gourmet food, entertainment and plush accommodations, R-SIX raced in comfort and finished in 3rd place behind two MOD70s. In March R-SIX was joined in the Caribbean by her sister ship, the newly launched HH66-03 Nala. The two went on to tag team the Caribbean race circuit, one or the other participating in the five high profile events of the season.

R-SIX sailed strong in the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, defeating all three Gunboat 60s in class and coming in 2nd Overall behind the zippy, 7-ton, custom Bieker 53 Fujin. Next it was Nala’s turn to shine; she made her racing debut at the St.Thomas International Regatta just days after arriving in the USVI from the Bahamas. STIR proved to be an exciting an event, with big breeze testing the fleet and providing Nala the chance to shine. Boat and crew held up strong and validated the HH reliability factor - sustaining zero breakages over three days of intense racing. Nala finished with 1st Place in three out of five races and 1st Overall, defeating the previously unbeaten Fujin.

The next event presented a new challenge; the BVI Spring Regatta was billed as the matchup of the season, with veteran Gunboats Elvis and H2O meeting for the first time and Nala, with only a few weeks on the water, and hoping to shake things up a bit. Shake things up she did, giving both boats a run for their money throughout the weekend. Nala endured a few missteps early on, but made adjustments and improved each day,  outperforming three of the five Gunboats in every race and chipping away at the elapsed time margins behind the two titans. Ultimately the tenacity paid off, with Nala taking 2nd Place Overall. A by-the-numbers analysis from Morrelli & Melvin (who designed all of the three fastest boats!) can be found on their Facebook page here.

R-SIX returned to do battle at Les Voiles de St.Barths. Light air prevailed throughout the regatta and R-SIX suffered a minor equipment failure making it impossible to use their asymmetrical headsail for much of the event. The team persevered and managed to sail well enough to secure a spot on the podium in 3rd Place Overall. Though not their best result, Les Voiles proved to be good practice for R-SIX for their next and final event of the season, Antigua Sailing Week. Mast lock issue resolved, the team attacked with full force, and after four days of competition only R-SIX remained unbeaten out of 150 yachts. Boat Captain Robert Janecki summed up the experience, "After many years of sailing racing catamarans, it is refreshing to see that there are things that can still surprise me. In Antigua we managed to maintain boat speed between 12-14 kts upwind, sailing against the waves! Quite amazing for a pleasure catamaran. What is more… the boat is built in such a way that it forgives us some of our mistakes during short and dynamic racing." Taking line honors in six out of seven races and wrapping up 1st Place Overall, R-SIX closed out their Caribbean season on a high note and immediately set out across the Atlantic once more, arriving in the Azores a quick ten days later.

With R-SIX and Nala providing ample proof of concept in the Caribbean, HH Catamarans pressed ahead with production, launching the first of the new HH55s in February. After a month of testing and fine-tuning, HH55-01 Minnehaha departed Xiamen bound for the USA. The boat was delivered into the waiting arms of her owner in Ft. Lauderdale just last week, and is currently undergoing recommissioning and some promotional sailing before setting off to the Bahamas for the owners’ first cruise in June. She’ll make her way up the East coast this summer, arriving in Annapolis in time to make her world debut at the United States Sailboat Show in October.

Production in Xiamen continues with three HH66s and three HH55s currently in progress. The next HH66, Flash, is slated to launch this summer, and features a newly styled cabin top, forward helm station and aft tillers with complete finger touch sail controls. Further expanding their product line, HH recently announced a new 48’ model. The HH48 will maintain the pedigree of the larger HH models, while incorporating simpler, easier-managed systems and layout for short-handed sailing. The newest addition to the HH Catamarans line is likely to encourage new entrants to the market, further expanding the incredible features of fast and safe blue water cruising. Like the HH55 and 66, the 48 will be a big volume boat, capable of taking a large payload for extended cruising with family and toys without diminishing performance or safety. The HH48 as a base boat will be offered at less than $1M, and at such a great starting price the growth of this bold new venture and brand is set for substantive growth. CARIBBEAN CHAMPIONS

We are very proud of Robert and the HH66-01 Team R-Six. Their Caribbean tour, which included the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, the RORC Caribbean 600, and Les Voiles de Saint-Barth,  concluded this month with the guys taking first place at Antigua Sailing Week!

After the first four days of the competition, they remained the only boat in the competition to have been unbeaten. There were 150 yachts this year so that's an impressive record indeed!

Next stop for team R-Six is Europe and the fastnet race! Here are some highlite photos from our Caribbean champions.

JAGUAR CATAMARANS MAKES WAY FOR HUDSON POWERCAT

HUDSON BRAND NAME ADOPTED TO BETTER PRESENT A GLOBAL UNIFIED BRAND.

Xiamen - April 24th, 2017. Hudson Yacht Group (HYG), builders of HH Catamarans, Jaguar Catamarans and Hudson Powercats today announced the discontinuation of the Jaguar Catamaran Int brand. HYG will now use the international name Hudson Powercats for all future builds and this is to create consistent branding across global markets whilst maintaining their focus on excellence, delivering clients incredible performance, livability and safety at sea.

Company president Paul Hakes said, “As an international company that has clients from all corners of the globe, it’s important for us to put forward a unified brand and design. The mature and dynamic Australian and North American markets demanded a power cat with better features and more contemporary styling. Working with renowned yacht designer Bill Dixon and selecting distinctive styling and improved functionality, we have shaped and evolved the Jaguar’s original design into our international brand Hudson Powercat. It is now time to show Europe the new Hudson Powercat with its updated yet classic style and all round enhanced functionality”

The brand renaming is the part of Hudson Yacht Group’s continuing evolution and expansion, having acquired Jaguar Catamarans in late October 2015, and bringing them into their growing yacht construction company. HYG took the concept for Jaguar Catamarans International and developed it to suit the North American and Australasian markets, thus Hudson Powercats was born. The first Jaguar Catamaran JC48 launched into the European market in 2014 and Hudson Powercat’s HPC48, the North America variation, hit the water one year later.

JC48 and HPC48

Much has changed since the first JC48 launched, and the design has evolved a great deal. Though both the JC48 and the HPC48 were developed in tandem, the Hudson Powercat eventually proved to be a better representation of where HYG wanted to take their power catamaran division. There have always been distinguishing features that set apart the Jaguar brand from Hudson Powercat and these distinctions helped the company test the market to see where preferences tended to lean towards. The large lower helm of the JC48 was rearranged to be more effective and free up saloon space enabling the addition of a bar. Hudson Powercat’s focus on maximizing the interior spaces and more classic interior styling have ultimately proven to have greater appeal with their clients.

The HPC48 design has now been standardized and will come in two variations; the owner’s version, with king size walk-around bed in the master cabin, and now the charter version with 4 double cabins. In both versions, all cabins are complimented with full en suites, with showers, and both versions have a large and spacious flybridge with entertaining table capable of seating up to 12 guests. The optional fully-enclosed air-conditioned hard top flybridge sets a new standard. V8 370 horsepower Yanmar engines also come as standard.

RORC CARIBBEAN 600
HH66-01 R-Six met some fierce competition at this year's Caribbean 600 but performed well in this grueling race. The two, purpose-built mod 70 racing trimarans, Phaedo 3 and Maserati, took first and second place almost breaking the race record. R-six come in a very respectable 3rd.
Though barely 24 hours off the back of a trans-Atlantic crossing, R-Six team 6601 managed to turn the boat around and ready her for the 600-mile blast around 11 Caribbean islands. This was true testament to the durability, character and strength of both crew and boat. The Caribbean 600 was the team's qualifying race for the Royal Ocean Racing Club's famous Fastnet Race, due to take place in the UK in August this year.

St. MAARTEN HEINEKEN REGATTA
More congratulations were due for R-Six Team 6601 who went on to compete in the Offshore Multihull 2017 St. Maarten Heineken Regatta. Facing off against three HYG built Gunboat 60s, this time they took 2nd place and it was an incredible regatta!
We are thrilled with the result and so proud of the boat and the team on R-SIX, who sailed a hard-fought regatta against some very experienced and well-sailed opponents.

NALA TAKES FIRST!
As regatta season continues in the Caribbean, HH66-03 'Nala' debuted with the 'Round the Rocks race on Thursday. The circumnavigation of St. John is a great warm-up for both boat and crew. They then faced off against multiple HYG built Gunboat 60s and the Bieker 53 in the St. Thomas International Regatta, and what a race! On the final day HH66-03 'Nala' was tied in points with Fujin at six points each. Winner of the last race would take all!
In the end HH66-03 Nala took first on corrected time finishing the regatta strong and securing 1st place overall!

READY TO DEPART
HH55 - We got our first look at the newly completed HH55-01 ' Minnehaha' earlier this month whilst she was finishing her final days of sea trials. She is due to depart China at the end of the month, and make her way to the USA where her new owners await.
Commissioning captain Thomas Jonsson reported "Sea trials went exceptionally well. We placed every moving part under load, including opening and closing the large salon sun roof whilst under sail and powered up. Though we came close, we didn't quite manage to fly a hull during trials. We managed to reach 23 knots in 20 knots of wind and, even when we were sailing conservatively, we easily reached our target speeds. Despite our best efforts, nothing broke! The results we got on HH55-01 were exceptionally good all-round and I was certainly impressed.
Her owners came out to China to visit the yard and were here for the final few days of sea trials. Both were very impressed with their new boat's performance and said she was "beyond all expectations".

Miami Boat Show 2017

Hudson Yacht Group had a fantastic time at the Strictly Sail Miami Boat Show this year. This was HH66's american debut and we were thrilled to see HH66-03 'Nala' so well received. We also showcased our VR technology and a number of visitors were able to be the first ever to step aboard our HH88 and take a virtual look around her huge interiors. Together with the VR, we were also excited to introduce the HH48 for the first time and this new design received plenty of interest from visitors and, as a result, the first hull will go in to production this year!
We also sold our beautiful HPC48. Her new owner purchased the 3-cabin owner's version and this boat will now join the Virgin Motor Yacht charter fleet this fall! There will now be two impressive HPC48s available for bareboat charter with Virgin Motor Yachts!

All in all the show was a great success.

Thank you to everyone who cam to visit us. See you next year!

VIRGIN MOTOR YACHTS PURCHASE A HPC48 FOR THEIR EXPANDING FLEET

HPC48

MOTOR YACHT CHARTER COMPANY IN THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

ADDS HPC TO THEIR FLEET

Hudson Powercat was excited to announce this week, the sale of one of their HPC48s to Virgin Motor Yachts in the BVI. Virgin Motor Yachts intend to incorporate this brand-new catamaran into their charter program. This will be the first purchase of many HPC48s as a planned fleet expansion by Virgin Motor Yachts. In addition, public purchases of the Hudson Powercat can be made through Virgin Motor Yachts who will offer “fractional ownership when the boat is placed into their Charter Program which offers the owner a guaranteed income, fully maintained and serviced boat, and a stunning environment in which to cruise and use the Hudson Powercat. The first hull to Virgin Motor Yachts is expected to be completed and delivered to the Caribbean in September this year.

Hudson Powercat is part of Hudson Yacht Group. They blend smart design with stylish aesthetics and Hudson's trademark focus on luxury and comfort. Their Powercat series has come to represent the pinnacle in luxury Motor Yacht design. The introduction of the HPC48 into BVI means owners now can purchase a higher quality, more luxurious yacht than anything currently offered for charter in the region.

Virgin Motor Yachts are a well-established British Virgin Islands charter company and have been based in the region for the last 20 years. They operate out of Nanny Cay Marina, Tortola in a beautiful spot that overlooks the Caribbean Sea. As they move into their third decade in business they are working to expand their fleet to include several new Hudson Powercats.

Company President Paul Hakes said "The British Virgin Islands is an incredible destination and the perfect place to enjoy cruising power catamarans. We are very excited about seeing an HPC48 sailing in the Caribbean later this year and are thrilled to welcome Virgin Motor Yachts into the Hudson Powercat family.”

The HPC48 Charter Version has been especially designed for the specific needs of the charter market. She has been built with super durable fabrics both inside and out without compromising on finish quality or style. High quality mock wood finishes have been chosen for the cabinet surfaces and genuine solid walnut wood will be used for all cappings and fiddles. The wide aft deck features beautiful teak wood flooring and generous seating and storage and table for dining alfresco. There are four cabins on this boat that include one master cabin and three guest cabins and each has its own en suit bathroom/shower. The three guest cabins each have a double bed that quickly and easily converts to two single beds whenever needed. This means that HPC48 Charter Version may accommodate up to eight guests at a time. The boat is easy to handle easily maneuvered. She can spin on the spot or move sideways with ease thanks to the twin Yanmar 8lv 370hp engines and bow thruster combination. She will comfortably cruise at 18 knots with a top speed at 24knots helmed from the fly bridge that offers a 360-degree view. Without a lower helm station space is freed up in the salon for a wet bar and additional refrigerator.

As this will be “Bareboat” charter, Virgin Motor Yachts make available a boat fully serviced, fueled, watered and ready to leave the dock. Clients will skipper and run the boat themselves, or hire a captain if necessary, and buy all their own provisions and whatever they want on board. Virgin Motor Yachts also provides clients with recommendations for destinations and helps plan a complete schedule.

The HPC48s are built at Hudson Yacht’s world class production facility in Xiamen, China, alongside HH Catamarans and the HH42. HYG utilizes industry leading technology and implements industry-best practices in every aspect of the build process. With nearly 30,000sqm dedicated to their boatbuilding operation, HYG's boat yard is one of China's largest.

Hudson Yacht Group also recently announced the establishment of a new Florida-based Sales and Service Center. Their Sales and Service Center will occupy a 1000 sqft office space with a wide berth on the waterfront at the Jupiter Marine Yacht Club, and will serve as the company's US headquarters and the warranty and service hub for Hudson Yacht Group's brands. Sales and Service Director Dan Sammis will spearhead the Jupiter operation, while HYG President Paul Hakes will split time between the US Sales and Service Center and the Hudson Yacht Marine production facility in Xiamen.
